What Is Supervision?

Supervision is a regularly scheduled, supportive meeting between you and your coach manager, designed to help you thrive in your coaching role. These meetings occur every six weeks and form a vital part of your student support process.

What Happens During the Meeting

Your manager will review each student, discuss their progress, and offer feedback. The conversation will reflect the same supportive, growth-oriented approach you use with your own students—often asking, “What's going well? What can we work on together for next time?”

Meetings typically follow a structured checklist to ensure all key areas are addressed:

Discussion Points

How Your Manager Supports You

  • Promotes your wellbeing and positivity in your role.
  • Helps you troubleshoot student challenges or administrative issues.
  • Encourages collaboration and community among staff.
  • Brings in additional resources or higher-level support when needed.

Logistics

  • Frequency: Every 6 weeks.
  • Format: Typically lasts about an hour (may vary by caseload).
  • Scheduling: Your manager will contact you when it’s time; please be prepared to confirm your meeting.
  • Work Hours: The time you spend on supervision should be logged as work hours, as explained here.

Tip: Come prepared with updates on your students, questions, and areas you’d appreciate support in. The more open and participatory you are, the more value you’ll get from supervision.
